HOW TO MEASURE for Ordering

Electric and Battery Operated Shutters

HEIGHT measurements:
Always make sure you measure both sides of the window and ALWAYS use the largest of the two sides.

There are two ways the roller shutters can be installed, either on the wall (OW) or in reveal (IR). OW is far more accepting of out of square windows.

On wall installation (OW)
Its completely optional where the head box can sit with OW installation, it can be mounted flush up under the eave, either fully above or below the lintel of the window, or it can even be half way under the lintel or anywhere inbetween. The overall height of the roller shutter is from the top of the head box, so if you want the head box to sit above the lintel, measure the height of the opening and use the table below to add the head box size and get your overall height measurement.

Up to 1300mm drop has a 150mm Pelmet**               **Battery motor will only fit in the 165,180 and 205 box heads.
Up to 1700mm drop has a 165mm Pelmet
Up to 2135mm drop has a 180mm Pelmet
Up to 3000mm drop has a 205mm Pelmet

In reveal installation (IR)
In reveal measurements have to be very precise, please Double Check these measurements. Measure from the sill to the top of the window opening (lintel).

WIDTH measurements:

On wall installation (OW)
The guide rails of the roller shutter are 53mm each, each roller shutter of course has two guide rails, so that’s 106mm that has to be added to the width of the window. Measure the width of the window at the top, centre and bottom. Take the LARGEST measurement and plus 106mm, this is your order width.

In reveal installation (IR)
IR installation once again has to be precise. Measure the window at the top, at the bottom, and in the middle. With IR use the SMALLEST measurement, if the smallest measurement is at the top of the window where the head box is to go, subtract 1mm from your overall width. Eg if overall width is 1500mm is the smallest measurement from top of the window take 1mm off, the new measurement will be 1499mm. if the smallest measurement was taken from the bottom or centre, the overall width would stay at 1500mm.

WARNING: If your windows open outward, eg hopper windows or casement windows inreveal installation may stop your windows from opening. Remember the guide rails are 53mm wide so onwall installation would be your best option.

Manual Operated Shutter:

The biggest size for a hand winder manual roller shutter is 5 square metres.
Warning: Manual installation the hardest type of installation, battery and electric are far easier installations.

HEIGHT Measurement:

On Wall installation (OW)

Brick wall:  Measure down 50mm from the lintel that supports the bricks, this position is where the bottom of the head box needs to be, the 25 mm access hole will be drilled above the bottom of the head box and below the lintel, this hole is for the manual winder ducting tube. From the 50mm point measure to the bottom of the sill, this is the height of the guide rails. To that measurement you need too add the head box size.

Up to 1300mm drop has a 150mm Head box
Up to 1700mm drop has a 165mm Head box
Up to 2135mm drop has a 180mm Head box
Up to 3000mm drop has a 205mm Head box

Use the height of the guide to determine your correct head box size, add together the height of the guide to the correct size of the head box chosen. This measurement is the overall height of your Roller Shutter.

NOTE: if your window goes all the way up to the eaves, measure from the eave to the sill for your overall height.
Timber frame: timber framed homes require a 25mm access hole for hand winder control. Homes without steel lintels above the windows can position your roller shutter higher.

In Reveal installation (IR)
Warning: in reveal installation is the hardest installation type, on wall is far easier installation type. In reveal allows for NO margin for error, and is only suitable for homes with a double wall and cavity construction. In reveal installation does not suit windows that open outward, and will restrict windows from opening.

Measure both sides of the window and always use the largest of the two sides. If the window goes all the way upto the eave, measure from the eave to the sill, this overall height measurement already includes the correct head box size. If the window does not go all the way to the eave, measure from the sill to the top of the window opening and this overall height measurement also includes the correct box size automatically. When installing the roller shutter it will be installed back 40mm into the reveal, reducing the size of the guides, this allows you to cut the guide to the exact length, and sill angle when installing.

WIDTH Measurement

On Wall installation (OW)

Measure the width of the window at the bottom and also measure the width at the top, and use the widest measurement. You then add the width of the guide rails to that measurement. The width of the guides is 53mm and theres two guides ,so 106mm added to the width of the window. Eg window width 1500mm plus 106mm equals 1606mm would be the overall width for ordering.

In Reveal installation (IR)

To determine the width of the window measure the window at the top at the bottom, and also in the middle,  and ALWAYS use the smallest measurement. If the smallest width is at the top, where the head box is to be installed, reduce the width be 1mm to ensure that the head box fits in the reveal of the window. This is your overall width for ordering.
